7 Ways to Bring Happiness in Your Life

Happiness is a positive emotion described by feelings of joy, content, satisfaction, and fulfilment. It is a state of mind in which the person feels calm, relaxed, hopeful, and optimistic about what the future holds for them. We, as humans, try to hold on to life’s happy moments and are inclined towards our search for happiness and creating happy memories. But not all of us can bring happiness in our life. On average only 28% of the people are very happy with their lives. With 23% struggling to find happiness, this includes even the rich and the famous people in the world.

We all know Deepika Padukone and her struggle with depression. In an interview with Deepika Padukone, she stated how she felt sad, empty, and lonely in her life despite being at the top of her career. “I was experiencing this hollow, empty feeling... I would just cry out of nowhere.” She has openly talked about her depression and how badly it affected her life. Despite putting on a brave face in front of the world, Deepika was struggling a lot with her sad thoughts. She was unable to bring happiness in her life, common among people suffering from depression. A feeling many of us have gone through.

But sometimes finding happiness in our life cannot be easy, especially when we feel nothing inside. Even a minute of happiness can brighten up the whole day and fuel us to carry on with life. So how to bring happiness in your life, when it adamantly won’t make an appearance. Here are a few techniques that may bring happiness to your life:

Be around people you love

Just being around people whom you love and adore can bring a sense of peace and calm to your mind, making you feel content and happy in your heart. Studies have proven that the company of happy people is likely you make us feel 12 times happier, so dump those negative energies and find a smile in the crowd.

Set a goal for the day and work towards it

Achieving our goals and dreams makes us happy. But most goals take time or a lot of hard work, which means a lot of struggling days before we get to be happy. So set small achievable goals for the day. It could be as simple as making one person laugh in the day, reach the office on time, or reconnect with a high school friend.

Maintain a gratitude journal

Happiness is an emotion that requires a reason. Sometimes finding that reason can be very tough. So for that, at the end of the day, sit back and relax, and think about your day. Think of instances and opportunities that you are grateful for. Like, I’m grateful it didn't rain today and I could get to work on time, or that my co-worker helped me out with the assignment that I was struggling with.

Reconnect with nature

We box ourselves inside concrete walls, be it in our homes, offices, malls, or restaurants. You need to find time to reconnect with nature. Be it going for a walk, jog, or run in the park. Go hiking for the weekend, or bird watching. Or simply just buy a plant and see it grow. Being in nature brings us happiness.

Eat and sleep correctly

Having a proper routine is crucial in keeping your mood in check. That's why you need to ensure that you wake up and sleep at a fixed time and have three proper meals a day. Studies have shown that the quality of your sleep affects both your life satisfaction levels and happiness. The healthier your meal, the stronger your body, the happier your life will be.

Take a break and enjoy

Mundane routines are not good, take a break from work and responsibilities, allowing yourself to take that well-deserved break. Do not plan anything for the day and just do what your heart says. Paint all day, complete the book you left half-read or simply go for a night out with your friends.

Exercise

The benefits of regular physical exercise cannot be stressed enough as they have prominent physical and psychological effects on us. Studies have shown that jogging and exercising are effective in improving happiness levels but helping secrete happy hormones like dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins.

Happiness does not come with a criteria list, even the tiniest moment in life can make us happy. So find that moment and live it, don’t let stress take over your life. If you are struggling to find happiness, seek professional help and find how to bring happiness in life. Just like getting a full-body check-up every year, it is always a good idea to check in with a professional regarding your emotional and physical health status too.
